Baby Jogger City Select Review
Published: 15th March 2017
Five years ago, when I was pregnant with my first, I was very diligent and read the pregnancy book 'My Pregnancy 2012' by Dr. Joanna Girling. The book was very useful and covered a broad range of topics on
pregnancy, birth and after the baby comes. When it came to discussing buggies, the author suggested that if you were considering
having more than one child within a two to three year period, perhaps it would be prudent to invest in a buggy that
converts from single to dual. So that’s what I did, and I can honestly say that I got my money’s worth.
After doing our research, we choose the Baby Jogger City Select
because of its versatility. Unlike some other single/dual buggies, the second child had their own full seat and
wasn’t stuck looking at the back of another seat (unless that’s what you want). We liked the sleek design of the
buggy and I especially liked that it wasn’t obvious that it could take two children as the adaptors were neatly hidden away.
In 2015, our family grew and the City Select really came into its own. My second daughter wasn’t a fan of the car so we took to
walking more. Since my first daughter was 3 years old at the time we weren’t sure how long we would be able to put her in the
buggy but nearly a year and a half later we’re still using it on an almost daily basis in some configuration
or another.
My favourite features of the City Select are:
- Lockable swivel wheels on front and large pumped wheels on the back for a smooth ride.
- So many variations and combinations for transporting the kids.
- The massive basket – you need it!
- It can be folded and dismantled easily and can fit in the tightest of boots.
- Seats easily recline and the hoods are extra large.
Some points to note before deciding on the City Select:
-
The frame can be quite heavy.
We live in the city so we don’t put the buggy in the car very often but if you were post c-section it could be an issue at the start.
-
The pram attachment is quite narrow.
To save on storage space, the pram attaches to a seat frame using popper buttons and hooks. This means it can fold relatively flat
once you’re finished with it, however, I only got my kids to 6-8 weeks old in the pram before they were too squashed as they were
fine babies. Given that the seat is rated for 6+ months it was less than ideal.
-
It can be hard to lift them up on kerbs with two children in the buggy.
Since the second child sits at the front it can be very heavy on the front wheels, however, the frame is exceptionally well designed
as both myself and my husband are able to put our full body weight on the handlebar to lift the front wheels without issue (we later
discovered that if you push the cross bar at the back wheels with your foot you can lift the front wheels more easily).
-
Leg room can be an issue if your child is tall.
It would be nice if the seat on the main frame could be lifted a little higher on the frame when two seats are attached to give a
bit more leg room. Given that it’s designed to hold up to 45lb or 20.5kg, this buggy could potentially carry a child up to 5 or 6,
but leg room can be an issue if your child is tall.
Given its versatility, I think that the City Select is reasonably priced as we haven’t had to spend anything
on any other buggies since purchasing it. Since we live in a townhouse in the city this is a relief as we don’t have space for storing
multiple buggies/strollers. All in all, I would highly recommend the Baby Jogger City Select.
